Mini bio

How it started.

Before she became Kathy Loves Physics, Kathy Joseph spent 12 years teaching public high school physics. She began writing a book that would teach electricity through its history, then turned sections into YouTube videos to find readers and test how the stories worked.

The video that found its audience.

After roughly four and a half years of steady channel growth, her December 2021 video about three-phase electricity began reaching many more viewers. In a January 5, 2022 update, she told patrons it had passed 100,000 views and brought around 5,000 new subscribers in just a few days.

Kathy builds her explanations around the people who made discoveries and the documents they left behind. She shares scripts on her website so viewers can follow the sources. Her videos also help her refine ideas for her books through conversations with viewers.

From videos to the bookshelf.

Her first book, The Lightning Tamers, came out on October 12, 2022. It follows more than 400 years of electricity’s history through linked experiments, inventions and the people behind them. Her channel also explores quantum mechanics, thermodynamics and the development of Maxwell’s equations.
