Mini bio
How it started.
Hieu grew up drawing in sketchbooks, inspired by manga, anime, and video games shared by his older brothers. He began digital painting after receiving a Wacom tablet in 2009, then explored watercolour during his final years of high school.
Taking the leap.
In 2015, he left university to pursue art full time. His audience grew around both his paintings and his willingness to share how he makes them. By April 2019, he had reached one million followers on Instagram. That year’s Breathe at Beinart Gallery was his first Australian solo exhibition, giving his Melbourne friends and family a chance to see his work together.
The world in his paintings.
His figures often seem caught in a private moment, surrounded by watercolour washes, negative space, graphic shapes, and gold leaf. His official biography names Monet, Gustav Klimt, Alphonse Mucha, Lois van Baarle, and Yoshitaka Amano among his influences. Dreams, memory, and human emotions recur throughout his work.
From paintings to books and cards.
His work has expanded into Magic: The Gathering illustration, international exhibitions, and portrait workshops. The Art of Kelogsloops: From Sketch to Finish, his 2025 debut book with 3dtotal, brings together his creative journey and painting process. His 2026 Los Angeles exhibition, Love, Death & All Her Friends, explores love, loss, and accepting change.
