Mini bio
How it started.
Sam Yang loved painting long before he became SamDoesArts. After a break from developing his art following high school, he rediscovered that passion in early 2020. His LightBox Expo biography describes a practice built around creating regularly, studying, and sharing his progress.
Finding his audience.
Working from Toronto, Sam built an online audience by sharing both his illustrations and how he makes them. His channels bring together drawing advice, tutorials, challenges, critiques, and painting process videos. His LightBox Expo profile reports more than four million followers across his social platforms.
Inside the paintings.
His character illustrations draw on anime and manga, with particular attention to lighting and expression. His debut book, The Art of Sam Yang, brings together artwork, personal sketchbooks, studio insights, and step-by-step demonstrations of his process.
