Mini bio

How it started.

Lois grew up between the Netherlands, the United States, Indonesia, France and Belgium. At 15 she began exploring digital drawing with Photoshop and Oekaki. She later studied animation and graduated in 2009 with the short film Trichrome Blue.

Finding her audience.

By the time she began freelancing, she had spent about six years sharing her art online. Early jobs were uneven, so she kept making personal work and taking DeviantArt commissions. Her first artbook, The Art of Loish, arrived in 2016 after reaching its Kickstarter goal in under two hours.

Characters and books.

In 2013 she spent three months creating concept art for Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn. Her books let fans see another side of that process: The Art of Loish collects finished paintings and sketches, The Sketchbook of Loish focuses on rough work, and The Style of Loish explores how an artistic voice develops.

Sharing the process.

Teaching has become a regular part of her work. She publishes monthly Patreon tutorials and offers free brushes, videos and drawing resources through Loish’s Digital Art School.
