Mini bio
How it started.
Stan Prokopenko was born in Odesa, Ukraine, and built his life around making things. He tried oil painting with a family friend at 13, studied animation and drawing in high school, and began taking classes at Watts Atelier as a senior. He spent ten years there, teaching for the last five.
From blog to drawing channel.
Proko grew out of a blog where Stan shared drawing tutorials. In 2012, he began turning those lessons into videos. His early head-drawing lesson introduced Andrew Loomis’s approach to a new audience, and the channel reached one million subscribers in September 2018.
A classroom with room for other artists.
His courses cover drawing basics, portraits, figure drawing and anatomy. Proko also brings in other teachers, while Stan and Marshall Vandruff’s Draftsmen podcast explores the craft and everyday questions of making art. In 2021, Proko expanded into a marketplace and community where artists could learn from instructors and one another.
