Mini bio
How it started.
Kirsty loved art as a child, but says criticism of realistic reference drawing in her school art class nearly made her stop. Finding realistic drawing lessons on YouTube helped her enjoy it again. She began sharing her own art tutorials in 2015.
Finding her audience.
Her practical explanations became the centre of her channel. Kirsty says the videos that explained how she made her art were her most popular, leading her to record longer tutorials. Famous Birthdays identifies her face-drawing do’s and don’ts lesson as her first video to reach one million views.
Helping fans draw for themselves.
Kirsty developed Coloured Pencil Academy to help students work from their own references, rather than depend on copying a tutorial. Alongside Drawing Decoded, it is now part of her Level-Up Art Club, which combines courses, real-time projects, a community and monthly critiques. Her official biography reports more than 20,000 course students.
