Mini bio

How it started.

Before her media career, Krystal worked as an accountant and ran as the Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 1st congressional district in 2010. She later joined MSNBC and co-hosted The Cycle from 2012 to 2015.

Finding her audience online.

In 2018, The Hill hired her as the progressive co-host of a new morning streaming show. Rising became her home for political interviews and commentary alongside conservative co-host Saagar Enjeti. Their 2020 book, The Populist’s Guide to 2020, brought their arguments about working-class politics and the political establishment into print.

Building her own shows.

Krystal and Saagar launched Breaking Points on June 7, 2021. She also co-hosts Krystal Kyle & Friends with Kyle Kulinski, a show built around interviews about politics and ideas. Its creators say the free audio and subscriber-supported video are entirely funded by listeners.

What matters to her.

In a 2025 Current Affairs interview, she connected her outlook to growing up in small-town Virginia and described the need to question powerful people without treating ordinary voters with contempt. She also spoke about the risks of creators telling audiences only what they want to hear.
