Mini bio
How it started.
Leandra founded Man Repeller in 2010 around a funny, freeing premise: the clothes women love do not have to please men. Early posts celebrated unusual layers, oversized shapes and piles of jewelry. In a 2011 Observer interview, she recalled how studying in Paris gave her more freedom to experiment with what she wore.
Finding an audience.
The personal blog grew into a media company with a wider range of writers and voices. TIME included Man Repeller among its 25 Best Blogs of 2012. Her 2013 book, Man Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls., brought her humor and clothing stories into print.
A turning point.
In June 2020, she stepped back after criticism of Man Repeller’s treatment of staffers of color. The site closed later that year.
What she makes now.
The Cereal Aisle focuses on how to wear clothes, why certain combinations work and which purchases deserve a closer look. Café Leandra brings together outfit ideas, shopping finds and thoughts on how clothes relate to mood. Her recent work also includes a hosiery capsule with Swedish Stockings and a summer wine collaboration with Broc Cellars and west~bourne.
