Mini bio

Before the advice column.

Lenny worked as a software engineer and co-founded Localmind, a service for asking people questions about places nearby. Airbnb acquired the startup in 2012. He joined as an engineer, moved into product management, and spent seven years at the company.

A surprising new path.

After leaving Airbnb in 2019, he began turning notes about what he had learned into essays. His first Airbnb piece found an audience on Medium, and Brian Chesky shared it inside the company. Lenny moved his writing to Substack and developed a weekly advice column, adding paid subscriptions in 2020.

More ways to help.

Lenny launched his podcast in 2022, bringing product leaders and founders into long conversations about how they work. The newsletter reached one million subscribers in March 2025. Since then, projects have included the Lenny & Friends Summit recordings and Lenny’s Jobs, built with Amit Taylor.
