Mini bio

Before the camera.

Mark studied mechanical engineering at BYU and USC, then spent nine years at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Seven of those years were on the Curiosity rover team, working on landing and sample-collection hardware. Product design at Apple followed.

The first experiment.

Their YouTube story began in 2011 with a Halloween costume: two iPads running FaceTime made a hole appear to pass through their torso. The costume became the starting point for a channel built around making engineering visible and fun.

Builds fans remember.

In 2018, Mark turned frustration over a stolen package into a glitter-bomb decoy. In 2020, squirrels stealing bird seed inspired an obstacle course. Both projects turn an everyday problem into a chance to follow an invention from idea to working build.

A place to keep building.

Mark founded CrunchLabs in 2022. Its Build Box kits pair toys that kids assemble with videos explaining the science. Hack Pack extends that approach into coding and robotics for teens and adults.

Beyond the channel.

With MrBeast, Mark helped start TeamTrees and TeamSeas before launching TeamWater in 2025. In 2026, Class CrunchLabs began releasing free classroom courses, bringing the same hands-on approach to middle-school science.
