Mini bio

A creative outlet.

Lindsey grew up in Stockport and studied dance before a hip injury introduced them to physiotherapy. They went on to work in the NHS, specialising in elderly care. Ropes of Holland began in January 2012 as a place to share fashion and design while studying.

From outfits to honest conversations.

The blog grew into a full-time creative career, with Instagram helping bring their style to a wider audience. In 2019, Lindsey and friend Lizzy Hadfield launched Things You Can’t Ask Yer Mum. Their conversations about relationships, friendship and life became a book of the same name in 2021.

Finding a new direction.

Learning to surf on a solo trip to Portugal opened another chapter. During a later trip to Hawaii, Lindsey began imagining a retreat that combined the community of surfing with more privacy and comfort. Marnie Rays launched in 2023, bringing people together around waves, food and time away.

Life by the sea.

Now based in Cornwall, Lindsey shares surfing and life alongside fashion. Their work also includes lifestyle brand The Longing, a 2023 swimwear collection with Whistles and the Marnie Rays Kooks newsletter, where fans can follow the retreats and the process of learning something new.

The Ropes of Holland name grew out of the phrase “learn the ropes” while Lindsey was revising anatomy.
Lindsey told Find Your Paradise that their first surfing experience was in Portugal at 33.
In the same surf Q&A, Lindsey picked dawn as their favourite time to surf and a nine-foot longboard as their go-to board.
The idea for Marnie Rays came while Lindsey was journalling during a solo surf trip to Hawaii.
