Mini bio
How it started.
Before the cameras, Matt worked around cars at dealerships and rental companies, owned a car wash and started a driving club. His official biography dates his first YouTube video to 2006. He began producing The Smoking Tire videos in 2009, initially hoping to turn them into a cable television show.
The One Take years.
When elaborate shoots became hard to fund, Matt stripped the format back to driving and talking to one camera. Those One Take reviews became his signature. They brought fan-built cars into the picture alongside manufacturer loaners, giving viewers a seat beside him on the road.
Beyond the driver’s seat.
The Smoking Tire podcast gives Matt and co-host Zack Klapman room for longer conversations with drivers, engineers, builders and entertainers. Matt also hosts television car programs, writes for Road & Track and founded Westside Collector Car Storage. His photography studies feed into his work behind the camera as well as in front of it.
