Mini bio
How it started.
Mehdi grew up in Harrow and studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford. His television career began behind the camera as a researcher and producer on ITV’s Jonathan Dimbleby programme, followed by work at the BBC, Sky, and Channel 4. He became the New Statesman’s senior politics editor in 2009.
Finding his format.
He joined Al Jazeera English in 2012, building a career around searching interviews and public debate. Head to Head put him opposite public figures with an audience asking questions too. He later hosted UpFront and The Intercept’s Deconstructed podcast, before bringing The Mehdi Hasan Show to Peacock and MSNBC.
Building something of his own.
After leaving MSNBC in January 2024, Mehdi announced Zeteo the following month, with an April launch planned. The reader-supported publication brought his interviews together with podcasts, essays, and other contributors. He also writes for The Guardian and hosts Head to Head.
Sharing the craft.
His 2023 book Win Every Argument turns lessons from interviewing and debating into advice on persuasion and public speaking. The publisher identifies it as a New York Times bestseller and offers an excerpt about understanding the audience before making a case.
