Mini bio

How it started.

Michelle started Lab Muffin in December 2011 after struggling to find clear explanations of beauty science while researching products for herself. She wanted to share what she learned from scientific papers in language other beauty fans could use.

From teaching to YouTube.

She began making YouTube videos in 2017 after teaching chemistry at Matrix Education. She left Matrix in 2019 to focus on Lab Muffin. Chemical & Engineering News later highlighted her indoor-sunscreen and DIY hand-sanitizer videos as viral hits.

Beyond the videos.

Her work now spans beauty explainers, books and research. The Science of Beauty came out with DK in 2024. As a BeautySciComm cofounder, she also coauthored a 2026 report examining how social media creators influence sunscreen use in Australia.
