How it started.
Monique learned to cook alongside a Puerto Rican mother and a father who loved making pies, pancakes and yellow cake. Ambitious Kitchen began in 2011, bringing family food stories together with recipes and an open conversation about finding balance with food.
Finding an audience.
Within three years, Monique left corporate work to run Ambitious Kitchen full time. Baking became a lasting connection with readers: the cinnamon rolls topped the site’s list of its most made, shared, pinned and Instagrammed recipes of 2017.
From blog to book.
The Ambitious Kitchen Cookbook arrived in September 2024 through Clarkson Potter with more than 125 recipes. The publisher identifies it as a New York Times bestseller. In a November 2025 Food Blogger Pro interview, Monique discussed stepping back after burnout and returning to the creative work that made the blog meaningful.
