Mini bio

How it started.

Born in Japan and raised in Sydney, Nagi worked in corporate finance before turning to food. She started RecipeTin Eats in 2014. Her approach grew from watching her mother cook creatively on a tight budget while working full time.

Cooking that fits real life.

She builds recipes around everyday ingredients, clear instructions and practical substitutions. Dinner arrived in October 2022 and brought her recipes into print. It won both Book of the Year and Illustrated Book of the Year at the 2023 Australian Book Industry Awards, the first Australian cookbook to take the overall prize. Tonight followed in 2024.

A kitchen that gives back.

Nagi founded RecipeTin Meals during the pandemic in 2021. Its chefs cook meals from scratch for people in need around Sydney, with distribution handled by One Meal. Her own kitchen stories have also included her golden retriever Dozer, who died in February 2026, and Jaffle, whom she introduced that June.
