Mini bio
How it started.
Before the recipes, there were books and newspapers. Nigella studied Medieval and Modern Languages at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, became Deputy Literary Editor of The Sunday Times at 26, then worked as a freelance journalist and columnist.
Finding her voice.
Her first cookbook, How to Eat, arrived in 1998. She thought it might be a brief detour from journalism, but working on its baking recipes changed her mind about what she could make. That discovery led to How to Be a Domestic Goddess in 2000. Nigella Bites brought her approach to home cooking to television audiences.
A continuing conversation.
Books such as Nigella Express and Cook, Eat, Repeat keep food and the life around it closely connected. Online, she shares recipes and recommends other writers through Cookbook Corner. In 2026 she added a monthly Financial Times column and a judging role on The Great British Bake Off.
