Mini bio
How it started.
NurdRage’s YouTube channel dates to November 2008. In a 2011 interview with Education Week, the people behind it described a group of anonymous Canadian chemistry and biology researchers sharing experiments from a full laboratory. Their aim was to balance educational value with experiments people wanted to watch.
Chemistry you can watch.
An early calling card was Make Glow Sticks - The Science, published in July 2010 and featured by Make that month. The video explored the chemicals, colors and reaction mechanism behind glow sticks. That mix of visible results and careful explanation runs through the channel’s work, from kitchen chemistry to advanced synthesis.

NurdRage also shares the work between finished demonstrations. Their sodium-metal research drew coverage from C&EN in 2018, and a 2019 video showed a menthol-assisted approach. Chemistry World interviewed NurdRage as a PhD chemist in 2018 about the difficulty of keeping detailed chemistry videos available on YouTube.
Making room for the lab.
In a community update, NurdRage said steadier employment had made more time available for videos, while scheduling remained uncertain. Their 2024 uploads ranged from density measurement and radiochemistry to preparing a platinum reagent and glow-in-the-dark powder. Patreon support helps pay for chemicals and equipment.
