Mini bio

How it started.

Before The Table Group, Pat worked at Bain & Company, Oracle, and Sybase. He founded the firm in 1997. In an interview with Sports Business Journal, he described his approach as field research: working with organizations, noticing patterns, and building ideas from what he saw.

Stories that teams pass around.

The Five Temptations of a CEO appeared in 1998, followed by The Five Dysfunctions of a Team in 2002. The latter became a New York Times bestseller. Its fictional leadership story gives readers a way to talk about trust, conflict, commitment, accountability, and results in their own teams.

A wider conversation about work.

The Advantage explores organizational health, while The Ideal Team Player focuses on the people who make teamwork possible. In 2022, The 6 Types of Working Genius brought his model of energizing and frustrating work into book form. Fans can also hear him work through everyday leadership questions on At The Table and The Working Genius Podcast.
