Mini bio
How it started.
PBS Eons began as a weekly YouTube series from Complexly and PBS Digital Studios. Hank Green announced it at VidCon in June 2017, with Green, paleontologist Kallie Moore and science writer Blake de Pastino as its first hosts. The series premiered on June 26, inviting viewers to explore life’s history far beyond the dinosaurs.
Finding its audience.
Episodes such as That Time It Rained for Two Million Years and The Invisible Barrier Keeping Two Worlds Apart turn deep time into specific, approachable mysteries. The latter explores the boundary between different animal worlds in Indonesia. Complexly now lists an audience of 3.2 million subscribers.
New ways into deep time.
The team launched Eons: Mysteries of Deep Time in March 2022. Its second podcast season, Surviving Deep Time, arrived in October 2024, turning a recurring fan question into conversations about whether a human could survive different prehistoric worlds. The four hosts are Kallie Moore, Michelle Barboza-Ramirez, Gabriel-Philip Santos and Blake de Pastino.
Out into the field.
In 2026, Life and Death on Pangea expanded Eons into a six-part documentary series. The team combined field exploration with animation to follow the Permian world, its mass extinction and life’s recovery.
