Mini bio
How it started.
Pendulum formed in Perth in 2002 when Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen teamed up with DJ Paul “El Hornet” Harding. Swire and McGrillen had played in the band Xygen before turning to electronic music. Their early track “Vault” helped open the door to the UK drum and bass scene.
Finding their sound.
The move to the UK brought them closer to the scene that inspired them. Hold Your Colour arrived in 2005, followed by In Silico in 2008 and Immersion in 2010. Their music brought guitar riffs and vocals into drum and bass, and Immersion became a UK No. 1 album.
A new chapter.
The Elemental EP in 2021 and Anima in 2023 helped shape their next chapter. In 2025 they released Inertia, their first full studio album in 15 years. Rob Swire and Owen Charles produced the record at the band’s London studio, with guests including WARGASM, AWOLNATION and Bullet For My Valentine.

Pendulum also perform DJ sets alongside their live band shows. El Hornet led those sets after the move to the UK; the official DJ biography now describes members alternating or appearing as a trio.
