Mini bio
How it started.
Born in Denmark in 1974, Peter graduated in photojournalism from the Danish School of Journalism in 1999. He carried that interest in observing people into a practice spanning exhibitions, editorial photography and advertising. New York became a central subject during his years living there, from 2004 to 2017.
Finding patterns.
Babel Tales became a signature project by turning separate street photographs into shared scenes. People who passed the same location at different times appear together, linked by a gesture or habit. Peter exhibited the series at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen in 2007 and brought Babel Tales: Redux to New York in 2011.
One corner, many mornings.
For 42nd and Vanderbilt, Peter photographed a Manhattan street corner between 8:30 and 9:30 am from 2007 to 2016. Repeated appearances by the same commuters turn small differences in clothes, expressions and routines into the subject. The project became a book in 2017 and received the Einar and Vera Hansen Foundation’s art, design and architecture award in 2018.
Beyond the city.
The Imperfect Atlas takes Peter’s interest in time into the Northern Cascade mountains. He collected vintage postcards, located their viewpoints and photographed the landscapes again through separate red, green and blue filters. Published in 2019, the book connects the changing landscape with the ways photographs record it.
Back to New York.
In 2025, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow brought Babel Tales and 42nd and Vanderbilt into a single book and a Danish Architecture Center exhibition. His 2026 GucciCore campaign returned to New York’s crowds, drawing directly on the approach he developed in Babel Tales.
