Mini bio

How it started.

Parris Goebel founded ReQuest in Auckland in 2007. The crew began with five girls and developed within The Palace Dance Studio’s dance community. In a 2016 interview, the dancers described a crew built to keep going as younger dancers moved up through its ranks.

The competition years.

ReQuest won the Varsity division at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in 2009, then took the Adult title in 2010. They appeared on season six of America’s Best Dance Crew in 2011, becoming the show’s first crew from outside North America.

The videos fans return to.

Goebel’s 2015 dance video for Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” brought ReQuest and Royal Family dancers to a much wider audience. Their screen work continued with their own “You Don’t Own Me” performance, Ciara’s “Level Up” and TroyBoi’s “Do You?” Their Nike workshops also gave fans a chance to learn their dancehall movement at home.

Part of a larger family.

ReQuest is an all-female crew within The Palace’s wider Royal Family community. The studio still lists ReQuest among its active crews. In 2025, members appeared under the Royal Family name on Mnet’s World of Street Woman Fighter.
