Mini bio
How it started.
Ritesh grew up in Odisha and found his business idea while travelling around India as a teenager. OYO’s own account describes stays in more than 100 hotels, guest houses and bed-and-breakfasts, where affordable rooms could be hard to count on for quality.
Building OYO.
He founded OYO in 2013 at 19 and received a Thiel Fellowship that year. In his own writing, he describes learning to handle sales, customer service and housekeeping before taking on the challenge of leading a larger company.
A wider audience.
Ritesh joined Shark Tank India in 2024. In November 2023, he had announced his own YouTube channel, promising a closer look at his personal journey, OYO and Shark Tank.
The next chapter.
In September 2025, OYO’s parent company adopted the name PRISM to bring its expanding hospitality portfolio together. OYO continues as a consumer brand within the group.
