Mini bio
How it started.
Robert was born in Varaždin, in what is now Croatia, and moved to Canada with his parents as a child. The family arrived with little, and he worked jobs including delivering newspapers and waiting tables. Before his business career, he also worked in film and television production.
Building from the basement.
A job selling computer equipment at Logiquest brought him into technology. After becoming its general manager, he started BRAK Systems in his basement in 1990 and sold it to AT&T Canada in 2000. In 2003 he founded Herjavec Group, the cybersecurity business that later became part of Cyderes. He stepped back from the CEO role in 2024 and remains a board member, advisor and investor.
The television chapter.
Dragons’ Den introduced him to Canadian viewers, and he became one of the original investors on ABC’s Shark Tank in 2009. His work on the show also includes executive producing, with a shared Emmy win in 2024. Away from the pitch room, he competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2015 with Kym Johnson, whom he later married.

His books include Driven, The Will to Win and You Don’t Have to Be a Shark. The last draws on his experiences in sales and life to explain how people can learn to communicate their value. Interviews, speaking appearances and social posts give fans more of those business lessons, alongside his interests in racing and family life.
