Mini bio
How it started.
Before her books and talks, Sheryl worked as an economist at the World Bank, a consultant at McKinsey and chief of staff at the U.S. Treasury under President Clinton. At Google, she led global online sales and operations before joining Facebook in 2008.
Finding a public voice.
Her December 2010 TEDWomen talk asked why so few women reach leadership roles. Lean In followed in 2013, blending personal stories and research with advice on careers, negotiation and sharing responsibilities at home. She also launched Lean In that year, building a community around women’s leadership.
Making room for grief.
After the sudden death of her husband Dave Goldberg, she teamed up with psychologist Adam Grant to write Option B. Published in 2017, it brings her experience of loss together with research and other people’s stories about rebuilding after adversity.
What she does now.
Sheryl stepped down as Meta’s COO in 2022. She chairs the Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Family Foundation, whose initiatives include Lean In, Option B and the Dave Goldberg Scholarship Program. She also co-founded Sandberg Bernthal Venture Partners and continues writing about women, work and leadership.
