Mini bio
How it started.
Shu grew up in a Chinese takeaway, noticing the differences between British Chinese dishes and the Cantonese meals her family ate at home. She began keeping a video scrapbook of meals and travels. Her YouTube food, travel and lifestyle vlogs date back to 2011.
From vlogs to television.
Her presenting work grew to include the 2020 documentary The British Chinese, part of A Very British History. She also reported for Inside Out on the treatment of British Chinese communities during the pandemic. In 2022 she joined BBC Studios TalentWorks for a six-month, Meta-funded Creator in Residence programme.
Cooking and connection.
After an introduction through BBC TalentWorks, Good Food commissioned all ten of her proposed recipe videos. She presented, filmed and edited the series in her London kitchen, drawing on Cantonese, Korean and other East Asian dishes. Her work also explores representation and the experience of having a dual cultural identity.
