Mini bio
How it started.
Somya began sharing fashion and beauty content for fun before turning it into a career. Computer science was part of the original plan, but outfits, makeup and skincare became the focus of The Sass Thing on Instagram.
Finding an audience.
By March 2020, Somya was posting weekly IGTV videos about skincare, makeup and fashion and preparing to expand to YouTube. The Michu channel joined YouTube that April. In November, The Statesman reported that Somya had passed 700,000 Instagram followers and become a full-time creator.
More than tutorials.
Today, fans can find detailed beauty routines alongside travel diaries and glimpses of everyday life on Michu. Somya is also a co-founder of Label Tasos, whose stated aim is to make affordable ethnic wear. Its official team page lists Dolly and Sanjeev Gupta as founders, and Somya and Tanya Gupta as co-founders.
