Mini bio
How it started.
Sophia began Nasty Gal as an eBay vintage shop in 2006, at 22. She styled the clothes, photographed them, and learned how to reach customers online. In 2008 she launched NastyGal.com; her own account says it sold out on its first day.
The Girlboss chapter.
Her 2014 memoir #GIRLBOSS turned that unconventional path into a New York Times bestseller. Netflix adapted it as Girlboss in 2017. The story also includes setbacks: Nasty Gal filed for bankruptcy in 2016, and Sophia went on to build Girlboss, a media company and community for ambitious women.
What comes next.
She launched Business Class in 2020 to teach entrepreneurship, then started Trust Fund to back companies that help people build businesses. Her newsletter mixes practical business lessons with candid stories about friendship, work, and making a home in London.
