Mini bio

How it started.

Steve grew up on a smallholding surrounded by animals. After studying English and Theatre Studies at Exeter, he trained in martial arts in Japan and wrote for Rough Guides in Indonesia. A film he made in the Colombian jungle caught National Geographic’s attention and led to work as its Adventurer in Residence.

The Deadly years.

He joined The Really Wild Show in 2003 and became especially familiar to families through Deadly 60. The series began broadcasting in 2009, and his presenting won a children’s BAFTA in 2011. Its animal encounters sit alongside a wider career of expedition films, including journeys into caves, rivers and remote mountains.

Sharing the wild.

Books and live shows give fans other ways into Steve’s work. Deep Blue combines memoir, travel and marine science, while Deadly gathers stories of predators and their survival skills. He also works with conservation charities, including World Land Trust, and co-wrote Wildlings with his wife, Olympic rower Helen Glover.
