Mini bio
How it started.
Susie grew up the youngest of six children in a family where food brought everyone together. A connection through a neighbor led her to write recipes for a barbecue smoker company. She learned the craft as she worked, then launched Hey Grill Hey in 2015 to keep developing and sharing barbecue recipes of her own.
Finding her people.
After a difficult second year, encouragement from fellow food bloggers helped her keep going. Her Facebook recipe videos found a much wider audience. In 2018, she turned recipes fans were asking for into bottled seasonings and sauces; retail sales followed in 2019.
Still teaching from the backyard.
Hey Grill Hey grew into a family business with Todd, her husband and chief taste tester. Alongside recipes and products, Susie teaches through The Grill Squad. In 2026 she released her Backyard BBQ Hero cookbook, hosted a Tastemade series of the same name and teamed with Christie Vanover on Food Network’s Pitmasters.
