Mini bio
How it started.
Suze grew up on Chicago’s South Side and studied social work at the University of Illinois. After heading to California, she worked at Berkeley’s Buttercup Bakery. Customers helped fund her dream of opening a restaurant, but a broker lost the money through speculative investments. She became a broker herself, learned why those investments were unsuitable, and recovered the money so she could repay the people who believed in her.
Finding her audience.
QVC appearances promoting You’ve Earned It, Don’t Lose It helped introduce her to a wider audience in 1994. The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom, PBS specials, and appearances with Oprah followed. From 2002 to 2015, she hosted The Suze Orman Show on CNBC, bringing her direct approach to viewers’ everyday money decisions.
Where to find her now.
On Women & Money, Suze shares personal stories, teaches financial concepts, and answers listener questions. Her work keeps returning to the connection between money and confidence, especially for women. She also co-founded SecureSave to help employees build emergency savings through work.
