Mini bio
How it started.
Freddy Hernandez first shared car projects on Nissan Maxima and Toyota Supra forums. He built a DIY car website, APiDA Online, and began writing for Jalopnik in July 2014. In a 2015 interview, he traced his interest to learning how his high-school Nissan Maxima worked.
From writing to rebuilding.
By 2017 he was devoting most of his time to YouTube. His fire-damaged 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder became an early signature project: Hooniverse documented the running car in 2018 after more than 70 build videos and nominated it for its Car of the Year.
Cars with friends.
In 2020 he co-hosted Car Trek with Ed Bolian and Tyler Hoover, taking on used-car buying challenges and road trips. His later projects include a hurricane-flooded McLaren P1, a P1 EVO redesign with Frank Stephenson Design, and a fire-damaged Porsche 918 Spyder. Fans can follow both the repairs and the problems that make them necessary.
