How it started.
Before fashion became a full-time job, Tenicka built a career in organizing and public policy. In a 2018 La Piana interview, they described community organizing in Flint as the experience that helped turn an academic interest in social justice into practical work. Their career included the Obama administration and leadership roles at the ACLU and Color of Change.
Finding a new outlet.
Tenicka began making TikToks during the summer of 2020 while working on police reform after George Floyd’s death. In an AFAR interview, they described creating around fashion, travel and justice as an outlet that grew into a passion. After 15 years in nonprofit work, they became a full-time creator in 2021.
A colorful point of view.
Their website brings style, travel and justice together, with a particular interest in resort wear and brands with a mission. Shopping videos and personal style features introduce fans to designers across Africa and the diaspora. YouTube included Tenicka in its 2023 Black Voices creator class, highlighting a community built around a colorful, purposeful life.
