Mini bio
How it started.
Born in Dhaka and raised for a time in Kabul, Tina grew up singing at family gatherings. Her PTV performance of “Akhan Cham Cham” in 1980 became her breakthrough. EMI Pakistan then signed her to record an album with Habib Wali Mohammed and composer Nisar Bazmi.
Finding Faiz.
In a 2012 interview, Tina recalled singing “Mere Dil Mere Musafir” in 1985 as a tribute after Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s death. His poetry became central to her work. She described finding answers to her questions in his writing and approaching it with sincerity.
Poetry across stages.
Her repertoire also embraces Rumi and Iqbal. Coke Studio’s third season featured her on “Mori Araj Suno” and “Nawai Ney”; she later sang “Khush Piya Wassen” for the Ho Mann Jahaan soundtrack. Beyond recordings, she continues to appear in performances and conversations about music.
