Mini bio

A teacher first.

Tyler began making videos while teaching high school after college. His students could follow a lesson in class, then struggle with the textbook at home. Recording his explanations gave them a way to revisit the material. He continued making chemistry videos during graduate school, when the channel began to take off.

Science through stories.

His 2012 TEDxBeaconStreet talk, “Hey science teachers, make it fun,” brought his teaching approach to a wider audience. He argued for lessons built around stories, demonstrations and language that beginners can follow.

Beyond the whiteboard.

His work also includes video authorship for Macmillan Learning’s Interactive General Chemistry and a virtual journey inside a human cell made with Google and XVIVO Scientific Animation. He has worked on AI tutoring at Socratic and VR training for biotechnology manufacturing at Virtuosi VR.

Helping the next group of students.

On his TEAS channel, Tyler now teaches science and works through practice tests for students preparing for nursing and allied health admissions. His 2026 videos also cover math, English, and anatomy and physiology.
