Mini bio
At home in the woods.
Whitney grew up in eastern Kentucky, spending childhood days climbing trees, fishing, and exploring outdoors. Photographing mushrooms turned curiosity into a deeper interest in identifying them and learning which ones could be used for food. On her official site, she describes foraging as a way to reconnect with nature and her roots.
How the videos began.
Her early Appalachian Forager posts shared mushroom photographs and identification information. In a WYMT interview, she recalled that her first introductory TikTok took off. Her mix of woodland discoveries, cooking, and humor grew into a full-time creative practice.
From videos to a field guide.
Go Forth and Forage brought her approach to a book in 2025. Fans can also watch her lead the hosts of KET’s The Farmer and the Foodie through eastern Kentucky in The World of Mushrooms, or hear her talk through foraging on podcasts such as Tending Seeds.
