Mini bio
How it started.
Before Bumble, Whitney co-founded Tinder and worked as its vice president of marketing from May 2012 to April 2014. She studied International Studies at Southern Methodist University. Her next company grew from a question about dating: what would change if women sent the first message?
Making the first move.
Whitney founded Bumble in 2014 to give women more control over starting conversations. In her own account of its beginnings, she describes wanting to change dating customs that still expected women to wait for men. Bumble later expanded into friendship and professional networking.
A public milestone.
On February 11, 2021, she rang the Nasdaq opening bell as Bumble made its stock-market debut. Her speech put relationships and community at the center of the moment, thanking the team and the people who had made connections through its apps.
Returning to lead.
After serving as executive chair from January 2024 to March 2025, Whitney returned as CEO. In October 2026, she backed Bumble’s agreement to be acquired by Ithaca Holdings and said she would stay actively involved in its future.
