Mini bio

How it started.

Abra Cadabra grew up on Tottenham’s Broadwater Farm estate. In a conversation with Joel Baker for i-D, Abra recalled starting to write around age 15, then deciding to pursue music seriously in 2016. Early appearances on Bl@ckbox and Mixtape Madness helped listeners find the voice behind “Robbery”.

The breakout.

Krept & Konan joined the “Robbery” remix in 2016, and the track won Best Song at that year’s MOBO Awards. The combination of a deep delivery and melodic passages became a thread through Abra’s work, from drill singles to afroswing collaborations with Kojo Funds and Stefflon Don.

More than one sound.

“On Deck” reached number 32 on the UK singles chart in 2020. That year’s debut mixtape, Product of My Environment, brought together “On Deck”, “Spin This Coupe” and more melodic tracks. Abra told Apple Music that the project was always intended to explore more than one sound. Mixed Emotions followed in 2021.

Into film.

In 2023, Abra made a first acting appearance in Penny Woolcock’s Trapping, playing Magic, a county lines gang leader. Speaking at the premiere, Abra described drawing on experiences from growing up in London to approach the role.
