How it started.
While living and working in the United States, Mittal became interested in the consumer internet. On a visit to India, a traditional matchmaker brought prospective partners’ biodata to his family. Mittal wondered whether putting matchmaking online could give people more choice across distances. In his Entrepreneur India interview, he traced Shaadi.com’s idea to that encounter. Shaadi.com’s own history dates its launch to 1996.
Building beyond matchmaking.
Under People Group, Mittal went on to launch businesses including Makaan.com, Mauj Mobile and People Pictures. Alongside building companies, he became an investor in other founders’ ideas.
Meeting a wider audience.
Shark Tank India brought Mittal to television audiences in its first season. In a January 2026 interview, he said public recognition had changed family life and increased his sense of accountability. Meeting new founders on the show also helped him stay curious about building companies.
Online with founders.
His social posts carry that conversation beyond television, covering marketing, workplace decisions and entrepreneurship. In January 2026, he opened a LinkedIn comment thread for founders to find funding, mentorship and collaborators.
