Mini bio

How it started.

Avinash began Occam’s Razor in May 2006 while working in research and analytics at Intuit. Encouragement from bloggers Andy Beal and Jeremiah Owyang helped get them started. The aim was to share useful expertise with other people.

From blog to books.

The blog led to Web Analytics: An Hour a Day, published in 2007. That year also brought an analytics evangelist role at Google. Web Analytics 2.0 followed in 2009, extending the lessons into customer research, experimentation and measurement across channels.

What they do now.

Alongside Occam’s Razor and a weekly newsletter, Avinash serves as Chief Strategy Officer at Human Made Machine and consults on brand strategy and marketing transformation at Tapestry. Their recent writing explores how AI changes marketing and the work of analysts.

Writing that gives back.

Avinash says all proceeds from their books and newsletter go to charity. Their official biography reports $1.7 million donated as of December 2024.
