Mini bio

How it started.

Before the lab coat, Bill was an engineer. He graduated from Cornell in 1977 and went to work for Boeing in Seattle. Comedy grew alongside engineering: a Steve Martin look-alike contest led into stand-up, then writing and performing on Seattle’s Almost Live!, where the Science Guy character took shape.

The classroom favorite.

Bill Nye the Science Guy ran from 1993 to 1998, with Bill creating, writing, producing and hosting the series. He kept reaching new audiences through The Eyes of Nye, Netflix’s Bill Nye Saves the World and the documentary Bill Nye: Science Guy.

Curiosity beyond television.

His books include Undeniable, Unstoppable and Everything All at Once. The End Is Nye takes that same interest in practical science into disaster scenarios, explaining how people can survive, reduce or prevent their effects.

Looking outward.

A charter member of The Planetary Society since 1980, Bill served as CEO from 2010 to 2026. He now represents the organization as Chief Ambassador and Vice Chair, continuing to advocate for space exploration and public engagement with science.
