Mini bio
How it started.
Born in Sri Lanka, Chamath grew up in Canada after their family stayed there as refugees. In a reflection on turning 50, they recalled working at Burger King from age 14 and handing their wages to their parents to help pay for bus passes. They graduated from Waterloo with an electrical engineering degree in 1999.
The technology years.
Leadership roles at Winamp and AOL preceded Facebook, where Chamath led growth, platform, and mobile teams. That work helped establish their reputation in technology. In 2011, they founded Social Capital, whose investments have included Slack, Yammer, and Groq. They also co-founded the AI company 8090.
Finding an audience.
All-In grew out of four friends missing their weekly poker game during the pandemic. Chamath joined Jason Calacanis, David Sacks, and David Friedberg to discuss business, technology, and society. In November 2023, they introduced Learn With Me, sharing research, reading lists, and deeper explanations of complex topics.
What fans can follow now.
In February 2026, Chamath announced a personal YouTube channel to share lessons from business and life and turn research into videos. Alongside All-In, Learn With Me continues to publish work by Chamath and the Social Capital research team, including recent studies of AI, employment, memory chips, and private credit.
