Mini bio
How it started.
Christy began modeling as a teenager in Miami. At 14, she met a scout connected to Ford Models and a Paris agency. By 16 she was staying with Eileen and Jerry Ford in New York and working with Vogue; in 1987, at 18, she moved into her own apartment there.
The fashion years.
Her 1988 exclusive Calvin Klein contract became a lasting relationship, including Eternity fragrance campaigns. After the summer 1994 couture season, she applied to NYU and began classes that fall. She later revisited the supermodel era alongside Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Linda Evangelista in The Super Models.
A story that became a mission.
A childbirth complication in 2003 led Christy toward maternal health advocacy. Her 2010 documentary No Woman, No Cry followed pregnancy and childbirth experiences around the world, and Every Mother Counts grew out of the film. She continues that work through advocacy, books, and films, including the 2026 documentary Perilous Passage: Birth in America.
