Mini bio
How it started.
Claire grew up in St. Louis and graduated with honors from Harvard in 2009. Training in French cuisine and pastry at Ferrandi in Paris followed in 2012. In 2014, Claire completed a history master’s at McGill, focusing on culinary history in the early modern era.
The test kitchen years.
Claire spent five years in Bon Appétit’s test kitchen and became Senior Food Editor. Gourmet Makes brought that pastry training to a different kind of puzzle: reverse engineering packaged snacks and candy. The Twinkie episode, released in July 2017, follows experiments with sponge cakes and fillings.
A kitchen of their own.
Dessert Person arrived in October 2020, pairing sweet and savory baking recipes with troubleshooting advice. Claire also hosts the companion YouTube series. The second book, What’s for Dessert, followed in November 2022 with 100 streamlined dessert recipes that do not require a stand mixer. Today, the channel mixes recipe lessons, snack recreations and answers to fans’ baking questions.
