Cullen studied film in Buenos Aires and documentary filmmaking in New York. Her training included working with Spike Lee and learning from Werner Herzog. Early work reached galleries in New York and Milan before she expanded into shorts, music videos and opera.

An invitation to play.

Ballroom Battle brought her interest in fashion and New York’s ballroom culture to an interactive film. Viewers choose dancers to advance through a competition. Released by NOWNESS in 2013, it earned a Silver Lovie for Best Interactive Video.

A story close to home.

Her first feature, Manuela, follows an immigrant nanny and the child in her care. In her director’s statement, Cullen connects the film to her own childhood nanny and her experience of motherhood. It premiered at Mar del Plata in 2022 and won Santa Barbara’s Nueva Vision Award in 2023.

Fashion and film.

Alongside independent cinema, Cullen makes fashion films and photographs artists and performers. Her recent work includes Beyond the Season with Gabriela Hearst, Schiaparelli runway films and portraits of Lisa Kudrow and Eva Victor for Interview.
