Mini bio
How it started.
Born in Rheinberg, Germany, Claudia was discovered at 17 in a Düsseldorf nightclub in 1987. In Paris, she and photographer Ellen von Unwerth made playful pictures near the Centre Pompidou. Those photographs caught Paul Marciano’s attention and led to their Guess collaboration.
The Guess girl.
The campaigns brought department-store appearances and television interviews across the US. Claudia remembers being recognised as the Guess girl in her New York elevator as the moment she understood her life had changed. Her work with Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel helped make her one of the defining models of the 1990s.
Building her own projects.
In 2021, she curated Captivate! at Kunstpalast Düsseldorf and a companion photography book. Her design work includes the Super Réal clothing capsule and Cloudy Butterflies ceramics. She also works behind the camera: Argylle credits her as executive producer under the name Claudia Vaughn.
Giving back.
Claudia has supported UNICEF UK since 1997. In 2000, she travelled to Bangladesh to follow polio vaccination teams and help raise awareness of immunisation. In 2024, she contributed a childhood-inspired T-shirt design to UNICEF UK’s collaboration with Everpress.
