Mini bio

Before the camera.

Cody grew up in Calgary and studied computer science at Duke, where he competed as a diver. Before making videos full time, he built the caption app I’d Cap That and worked in software engineering. In a 2021 interview, he described growing his Vine audience while backpacking, then balancing engineering jobs in Los Angeles with auditions and filming.

Finding his voice.

His move into YouTube commentary gave him room to turn strange corners of the internet into longer comedy videos. He has pointed to “Instagram comedians” as an early video that gained traction. At Fullscreen, he and fellow creator Noel Miller worked at desks facing each other, then filmed sketches after work. Their collaborations grew into That’s Cringe, Tiny Meat Gang’s music, and a podcast that won the 2019 Shorty Award for Podcast.

Beyond reaction videos.

He played Wade Sanders in The Real Bros of Simi Valley and performed with Miller and blackbear on “Short Kings Anthem.” Another strand of his work follows endurance training: after posting his 2022 ultramarathon video, he launched Cody Trains that September. His newer releases also include solo dance music and remixes.

A change at TMG.

In July 2024, TMG Studios announced that Cody would step away from its day-to-day operations after Tana Mongeau alleged that he had sex with her when she was 17 and he was 25. TIME reported the announcement and said he had not publicly addressed the allegation at that time. Subsequent uploads on Cody & Ko and Cody Trains, alongside his music releases, document his continued work.
