Mini bio

How it started.

Growing up in rural Ohio, Coyote explored forests, creeks and swamps near home, with a particular fascination for snapping turtles. At Ohio State, a love of movies led to a change from business studies to a personalized course of study in film. Coyote graduated in 2004.

Finding an audience.

Coyote and filmmaking partner Mark Vins combined animal encounters with storytelling in Brave Wilderness. The channel has been live since September 2014. In a Guinness World Records interview, Coyote recalled that the pain-focused episodes began with a porcupine encounter intended to demonstrate quill removal. Bites and stings then became a major route into the wider wildlife catalogue.

Beyond the sting zone.

Breaking Trail won a Youth/Teen Emmy in 2015. Coyote went on to write wildlife books, including The King of Sting and The Beast of Bites, and host and executive produce Animal Planet’s Coyote Peterson: Brave the Wild, which premiered on February 9, 2020. The recurring aim is to help viewers understand animals they might otherwise fear.
