Mini bio

How it started.

John and Hank Green brought their experience from Vlogbrothers into a new educational project with Stan Muller and Nick Jenkins. Crash Course began in 2012 with John teaching World History and Hank teaching Biology. The Agricultural Revolution opened the World History course on January 26.

The classroom grew.

Those first courses established a format built around a host, humor and animated explanations. A PBS Digital Studios partnership announced in 2014 helped expand the course lineup and bring in more hosts. The channel grew beyond exam preparation into a place for people who simply want to understand something new.

More ways to learn.

In 2023, Crash Course, Arizona State University and YouTube announced a Study Hall route toward college credit. More recent courses explore sexual health, Native American history, scientific thinking and geology. Crash Course Books extended the idea into publishing, starting with John Green’s Everything Is Tuberculosis in March 2025.
